PERU, Lima, silver medal, 1864, American Congress, by Robert Britton, NGC MS 61. Fonrobert-9139. Obverse with CONGRESO AMERICANO above INSTALADO EN LIMA EL DIA 14 DE NOVE. DE 1864; reverse with list of the representatives attending as AROSEMENA, BENAVENTE, GUZMAN, MONTT, PAZ SOLDAN, PIEDRAHITA, SARMIENTO wrapped in olive branch and frond with radiant star above, initials R.B at bottom center; smooth edge. Along with the prior lot, this medal was created to commemorate the fourth Latin American Conference in November of 1864 in Lima, Peru, which had fruitlessly attempted to make agreements regarding intervention by (mostly) European powers. Lustrous obverse with golden hues and some scattered hairlines for the grade, almost prooflike and non-toned reverse, sharply struck detail all over.
