PERU, Lima, gold cob 8 escudos, 1699 R, short pillars, NGC MS 61 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label). S-L26; KM-26.1; Cal-968; Fr-1. 29.96 grams. Very sharp full waves below full pillars that do not quite reach all the way to the waves (a known variety of this year only), full crown at top, that side off-center but the full cross-lion-castles centered, albeit with minor doubling and a characteristic die-break on the lower castle, rich gold color and desirable as a Mint State example of the earliest type (Charles II). Recovered from: Spanish 1715 Fleet, sunk off the east coast of Florida
