PERU, Lima, gold cob 4 escudos, 1712 M, rare, PCGS MS62 / 1715 Fleet, finest known in PCGS census. S-L28; KM-37; Cal-2006; Fr-8. 13.47 grams. Full and well-centered pillars-and-waves with clear 7-1-2 date and M assayer and lightly lustrous fields, also choice full cross-lions-castles with traces of sediment in crevices but that side typically struck from a rusty die, nice round flan, only the fourth example we can trace (compared to hundreds of 8E of this date) and curiously the latest-date Lima 4E known from the 1715 Fleet. From the 1715 Fleet, pedigreed to the Ponterio auction of March 1990, with original lot-tag 2858, and with Sedwick photo-certificate.
