PERU, Lima, gold cob 2 escudos, 1697/6 H, very rare, NGC MS 64 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), finest known in NGC census. S-L25; KM-unl (29 for type); Cal-unl (Type 146); Fr-3. 6.70 grams. Well-centered full cross-lions-castles and pillars-and-waves with full crown and ample legend on both sides (including full and bold C.II for Charles II, light contrasting sediment in crevices. It is interesting to note that the cross sides of the 1697/6 issues (like this coin) do not match the known 1696 issues, which lack crossbar ends. From the 1715 Fleet, with Sedwick photo-certificate.
