PERU, Lima, gold cob 1 escudo, 1735/4 N, extremely rare, NGC UNC details / holed, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. S-L29; Cal-unl (Type 197); Fr-10; KM-unl (35 for type). 3.35 grams. Very broad flan with choice full details including strong overdate above the peripheral hole (otherwise lacking any wear or damage), patch of red staining on cross side, first example we have seen or heard of (possibly unique, missing in Calicó and KM in any case). Note the teardrop-then-dot ornaments seen on the previous lots are now mixed with large X's, as they will remain for the rest of the Philip V type. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection (stated on label).
