PERU, Lima, gold cob 1 escudo, 1721/0 M, very rare, NGC MS 62, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Sellschopp, ex-Almenara. S-L28; Cal-1679; Fr-10; KM-35. 3.38 grams. Broad flan with bold castle and date (including overdate), full cross despite slightly off-center strike, minor edge-split. The teardrop ornaments mentioned in the previous lot are now dots with tiny tails on the present coin. Note this coin is featured on the first page of color plates in the Sellschopp auction catalog (which missed the overdate). Pedigreed to the Sellschopp Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1988, lot 214) and to the UBS auction of September 1997 (lot 2389), also pedigreed to the Almenara Collection (stated on label), as well as the Glendining auction of March 1936 (lot 343).
