PERU, Lima, gold bust 4 escudos, Ferdinand VI, 1751 J, first bust, NGC AU details / cleaned, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Cal-693; Fr-17; KM-49. Rich gold color with minimal luster and light wear but no appreciable hairlines, first date of issue and the beginning of an unprecedented offering of Lima 4 escudos, all of which are rare and seldom offered (the present type, for example, missing in both Eliasberg and Caballero, to name just two important collections) and in many cases represented in the NGC census by only the coins presented in this auction (as is the case with the present lot). Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection (stated on label).
