PERU, Lima, gold bust 1 escudo, Charles III, 1762/51 JM, first bust, extremely rare, NGC VF 35, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Sellschopp, ex-Almenara, KM plate. Cal-unl (Type 126); Fr-27; KM-unl (65 for type). Bold strike with full rims, choice contrast from red toning and light sediment, trace of natural flaw to rim behind head, the strange and possibly unique overdate actually quite clear and apparently overlooked till now (missing in all references and in the Sellschopp catalog, despite being the Plate Coin in KM). Pedigreed to the Sellschopp Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1988, lot 283) and to the Almenara Collection, Plate Coin in KM's Standard Catalogs (all stated on label).
