PERU, Lima, cob 8 reales (round flan), 1740, assayer N on pillars side and assayer V on cross side, unique(?), ex-Ugaz. S-L22; KM-34a; Cal-1319. 25.03 grams. To our knowledge, this coin is the only known example of this muling, first discovered in 1975 (see pedigree), with no other examples surfacing since, although it is quite likely that others exist without the assayer visible on either side of the coin. It is also desirable as perfectly round (Hervera: "cospel redondo"), with well-centered full pillars-and-waves showing assayer N twice and cross-lions-castles with full assayer V to right, attractive steel-gray toning all over, an important coin for the specialist. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection and to the Martí Hervera / Soler i Llach auction of October 2021 (lot 1495), the Aureo auction of December 1990 (lot 559), and the Cordry & Craig sale of February 15, 1975 (lot 198, described as "PROBABLY UNIQUE & VERY IMPORTANT").
