PERU, Lima, cob 4 reales, 1749 R, dots flanking denomination, rare, PCGS VF30, finest known in PCGS census, ex-Pat Johnson, ex-Sellschopp. S-L23; KM-43; Cal-unl (Type 49). 12.58 grams. Richly toned, typically chunky flan with bold centers but extensive peripheral flatness, top of date clear and just enough of the assayer to determine it is R and not V (which may or may not exist in this denomination), in any case odd not to be listed in Calicó considering that it was part of the Sellschopp Collection sold in 1988. Pedigreed to the Pat Johnson Collection and to the Sellschopp Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1988, lot 253), both stated on label.
