PERU, Lima, cob 2 reales, Philip II, assayer X to right, very rare, Grade 1, ex-Atocha Research Collection, Plate Coin 25, ex-Karon. S-L3; KM-9; Cal-336. 6.42 grams. Bold full P-X to right and denomination ii to left of full shield, full cross with 4R-sized "dancing" or Segovia-style lions (typical of the early issues of Potosí, not seen on any other Lima coins), much legend (including king's name typically misspelled as PHILPPVS) despite slightly out-of-round shape, virtually no corrosion but somewhat worn, toned in crevices. Pedigreed to the Bill Barman Collection of Atocha RC Coins, with recent Fisher tag and photo-certificate 85A-236922 showing Grade (unlike the original Research Collection certificates), also pedigreed to the Paul Karon Collection (Superior auction of December 1992, lot 134). Recovered from: Atocha, sunk in 1622 west of Key West, Florida
