PERU, Lima, bust 8 reales, Charles III, 1772 JM, NGC MS 63, finest known in NGC census. KM-78; Cal-1035. As mentioned in lot 1317 above, a pillar dollar of the same date, this choice piece would be an excellent companion for showing both types of coins from the same date, something that only occurred at the Lima mint. With slightly off-center obverse on a broad flan with nearly full rims, this example is a frosty beauty with no hairlines or marks and great luster throughout, the single finest of eight entries in the current NGC census, notably finer than the Millenia specimen that re-sold last year for almost $8000.
