PERU, Cuzco, gold cob 2 escudos, 1698 M, HISPANIRVM error, broad flan ("Lima" cut), very rare, NGC MS 64 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), "top pop." S-CZ1; KM-28; Cal-855; Fr-4. 6.72 grams. While we have certainly sold some really nice Cuzco cob 2 escudos over the years, this exquisite gem is the finest, as it is perfectly centered on a broad flan with all inner details and legends full and bold (including the clear spelling error -IRVM, which is very rare), totally devoid of doubling or weakness, with incredible depth of strike against brilliantly lustrous fields in rich gold color; in short, a perfect cob, currently tied with one other for finest in NGC census but worthy of an even higher grade in our opinion. Recovered from: Spanish 1715 Fleet, sunk off the east coast of Florida
