PERU-BOLIVIA CONFEDERATION, Lima, silver medal, Callao Fortress / 1836, very rare, ex-Salbach. 10.53 grams total. 2¾" x 1". Obverse with turret being scaled by infantryman, legend RENDIDO / EL CALLAO / AL VALOR / SIN EJEMPLO within wreath; reverse with incuse date EN 19 / DE / ENERO / DE 1836 [sic]. Issued to commemorate the 1826 assault on the Spanish-held fortress of Callao, the 1836 date possibly marking the 10th anniversary. A very rare piece with the original pin (ribbon still attached), quite lustrous with golden toning throughout, AU with very minor evidence of wear. Pedigreed to the Salbach Collection (Schulman auction of February 1911).
