PARAGUAY, War of the Triple Alliance, 2 soles, half cut of a Potosí, Bolivia, 4 soles, without countermark (1865-70), rare. Pratt-MC2. 4.67 grams. About Fine with traces of toning, sharply cut edge, heavy scratches on reverse, which shows clear 4S denomination and Potosí mintmark in legend, LIBRE POR LA visible on the Bolívar side. Cut Bolivian coins like this were created and used by merchants for making change during the War, which was a land dispute pitting Paraguay against the "Triple Alliance" of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, who were the ultimate victors.
