PANAMA, cob ½ real, Philip II, assayer oX to right, mintmark AP to left, very rare, NGC XF 40, finest known in NGC census. Proctor-unl (xC/-); Sed-AP1; Cal-134; KM-1. 1.60 grams. Bold full crown and monogram (well centered) with clear AP to left and oX to right, full cross with normal-sized lions and castles properly oriented in their quadrants (yet an apparently unrecorded die), interesting variety with legend of D G ISPANIARVM R (the D upside-down) on both sides (no king’s name), contrasting toning all over, with minor edge-crack. Exceptionally rare as straight-graded, and in fact the finest of just four in the NGC census.
