New Jersey, 6 pounds, Nov. 20, 1757, serial 900, PMG VF 25, finest known in PMG census. Fr-NJ-113. Only 1,100 notes authorized for this highest denomination of the 1757 series. Bold vignette of royal arms to left, pen signatures of S. Nevill, H. Hartshorne, and A. Johnston to right. Reverse with "It's DEATH to counterfeit this Bill" above leaf design (a mid-1750s colonial anti-counterfeiting device). Very tough to find even in Fine, much less in Very Fine as evident in being the only one in the PMG census. Considerably better than the Eric P. Newman example. PMG notes stains which are light and mostly found on the reverse. As with the prior lot, a nice even serial number. PMG #8059652-003. Pedigreed to the Henry D. Osborne collection.
