Naufragio en Inés de Soto - Un hallazgo de cuatro siglos, compiled by CARISUB, S.A., 1998, inscribed by the Captain of CARISUB. 10¼" x 8½". In 1992, a Cuban underwater archeological research company discovered a sixteenth-century Spanish shipwreck off a Key called Inés de Soto, northwest of Havana. Although the exact date and identity of the wreck have not been established, it contained gold and silver bars, coins, and other archeological pieces consistent with a timeline around the latter part of the 1500s. Many Charles-Joanna coins from Mexico City were on board, from the earliest assayer, Francisco del Rincón (assayer R) to the latest assayer of the period, Bernardo de Oñate (assayer O). The majority of coins were from assayer O and his predecessor Luis Rodríguez (assayer L). Surprisingly, there were 53 Rincón 3 reales found. Also recovered were several Charles-Joanna pieces from Santo Domingo. The inventory of this vessel is very well detailed along with photos of representative coins. There are numerous photographs and drawings, and the book gives a very thorough account of what was found and its historical context. This is an extremely rare and important book, virtually non-existent outside of Cuba. VF, 255 pp., soft cover, color photos throughout, inscribed in Spanish in red ink on title page by Captain "Rafa."
