NICARAGUA, León, 1 real, liberty cap countermark (1824-25) on a Tegucigalpa, Honduras, provisional "imitation cob" 1 real, 1824-PMPY, retrograde lions, very rare, NGC XF 45, c/s XF standard (Richard Stuart Collection Label), finest known in NGC census. Jara-pp. 33-34; KM-unl. 3.14 grams. Full and clear countermark on cross side of well-struck host (oblong flan) with 100% full cross and pillars including two dates, all with lovely golden toning over luster, clearly the finest known of a very rare type that has fetched well into five figures in the past, additionally important for its pedigree to the Richard Stuart Collection that was dispersed a decade ago, hence now is a rare second chance to acquire such a trophy from this prestigious collection.
