NETHERLANDS (United), Utrecht, gold ducat, 1711, and four silver ducatoons in a clump (as found). 215 grams total. roughly 2½" x 2" x 2". Clumps are always impressive and rare, but none more so than the few that contain gold coins, as the temptation to remove the gold for quick cash is normally too great for salvors to resist; in this case, however, the gold coin (with fully exposed obverse, partially red-toned) is bent and was best left gracing the top of this clump, whose embedded silver coins all appear to be very well preserved and well detailed but only partially exposed (one clearly dated 1648 with hand mintmark for Antwerp), the thick gray-orange matrix of pebbles and debris very solid and stable, making this piece not just rare but an excellent display as well. With photo-certificate. Recovered from: DeLiefde, sunk in 1711 off the Shetland Isles, north of Scotland
