NETHERLANDS (Kingdom), mint uncertain, 2½ gulden, probably Willem III, date not visible (mid-1800s), rare provenance. KM-82. 27.25 grams total. Solid coin but with no visible details due to thick cocoon of whitish encrustation. Recovered by Bill Mathers in 1979, with copy of explanation letter and hand-written map showing the location of the wreck on an eponymous reef in the South China Sea (near Singapore) that is famous also for being the location of the 1752 wreck Geldermalsen ("Nanking Cargo"). The ship was named after a Dutch Naval hero in the Anglo-Dutch wars of the mid-1600s. Recovered from: Admiral Stellingwerf, sunk in 1856 off Bintan Island, Indonesia
