Popular issue (effectively the first crown of this country) from a mintage of only 1500 pieces, reportedly struck in just two days in February of 1844 in celebration of the re-opening of the mint after the Siege of Montevideo by General Manuel Oribo during the Uruguayan Civil War, this example with nearly prooflike luster and largely inoffensive surface hairlines, faint golden toning.
