Mexico, gilt-silver star breast badge, 1821, Star of Cordova, with original suspension and ribbon, extremely rare, ex-ANS. Ross & Stahl-Mx2; Grove-D7. 9.82 grams, 31mm. Eight-point star enameled white with central medallion enameled red except for central raised flower, all below eagle-and-snake suspension below green-enameled bar that says 9o DIVISION, the original green-white-red ribbon with original fastening brad on back. Another significant military award from the Mexican War for Independence, this one given to officers and enlisted soldiers of the Ninth Division of the Army of the Three Guarantees for successful defense of Cordova in Veracruz on May 16-21, 1821, under the same General Herrera as for Tepeaca (see previous lot). Overall good condition, with only minor wear and chips to enamel, the colors still bright. Pedigreed to the American Numismatic Society archives (Morton and Eden auction of April 2007, lot #459).
