Mexico, cob 1 real, Philip II, upside-down mintmark oM to left, denomination I over assayer O to right, king's name as -PVS I*II, unique variety. S-M11; KM-26; CT-643. 3.3 grams. This period is plagued with odd errors, but this one is the strangest we have seen, with the mintmark punched in upside-down, the denomination I punched over the assayer O, and a strange extra I after the king's name but before the ornament and proper ordinal II (which also appears to be punched over the old D.G), full cross, small flan, VF with flat areas.
