Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales Royal (galano), 1714J, very rare, NGC VF details / holed. S-M22; KM-R47; Cal-1367. 26.52 grams. Extremely broad flan that extends WELL past the outer borders (smaller-format design than previous issues, but also a much thinner flan than other examples), all details full and evenly struck, obverse die-match with Lazaro #69 (rated R4), with lovely gunmetal toning all over, a distinctive example with four crude holes (one at each end of the cross) that was in hiding when we sold another 1714 just this May and stated that only four were known (now the population is five, in addition to one non-round "pseudo-Royal" from the same obverse die) made from three different reverses, this one being the variety with upright flower at top of reverse. NGC #4666499-001.
