Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, Philip III, assayer not visible, ex-Peterson, very rare provenance. 20.43 grams. Full cross and full but off-center shield despite moderate corrosion all over, deeply toned. Among the various "go-withs" for this lot is our certificate from 2002 stating the all-important provenance of this piece as "presented by salvor Teddy Tucker to the Smithsonian's Mendel Peterson," who was known to have visited (and written about) Teddy's many diving projects in the 1970s, the yields of which are almost exclusively held in Bermuda to this day with the exception of a handful of pieces given to Peterson for his efforts and subsequently sold just prior to Peterson's death in 2003. Pedigreed to the Mendel Peterson collection, with Sedwick certificate from 2002, plus 1995 Hume book Shipwreck! signed by Teddy Tucker, plus 2004 DVD Teddy Tucker: Adventure is My Life, and undated map of Bermuda shipwrecks signed by Teddy Tucker.Recovered from: Warwick, sunk in 1619 off Bermuda
