Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, 1619/8D/F, Grade 1, rare, NGC shipwreck effect / Sao Jose, ex-Gray. S-M18; Cal-unl; KM-unl (44.3 for type). Very solid and bold for this wreck (probably close to full weight), with good full shield and cross enhanced by contrasting toning, clear oMD/F and bottoms of digits of date (not noted on label), denomination 8 to right, minor corrosion on edge only. With generic certificate from the salvors, pedigreed to the Thomas Gray collection and formerly displayed at the ANA Money Museum's "Treasures of the Deep" exhibit (2014-15), also pedigreed to our Auction 10, with original lot-tag #288 and to our Auction 19, with original lot-tag #389. NGC #1973341-019. Recovered from: Sao Jose, sunk in 1622 off Mozambique, east of Africa
