Mexico City, Mexico, cob 1/2 real, (1613-16) F/A, 1R-sized castles and lions, NGC XF 40. S-M17; KM-unl (21 for type); Cal-unl. 1.63 grams. Clear F/A to right of monogram and bottoms of digits of date visible but too messy to attribute despite NGC's attribution to 1610/09 based solely on the over-assayer (which, mysteriously, persisted on some coins as late as 1616), bold crown above and x-fleur-x below monogram, good full cross-and-tressure with distinctly 1R-sized castles and lions (a characteristic of some pieces starting in 1613), richly toned all over. Pedigreed to the Clyde Hubbard Collection, with his original tag/envelope. Please use this link to verify the certification number
