Mexico City, Mexico, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Late Series," assayer G to left, mintmark M to right (G-M), motto as PLV-SoVL-TRA, NGC AU details / cleaned. Nesmith-46b; Cal-128; S-M5; KM-18. 13.53 grams. Despite the grade, this lovely coin has the deep gunmetal toning indicative of its probable origin from the "Golden Fleece wreck" (ca. 1550), plus so much more. It's an extremely rare variety with PLV-SoVL-TRA for the banner between pillars plus the unusual pillars legend with double annulets in IN : DIARVM followed by a trefoil or flower to finish the legend (only found in combination and used only by this assayer). It's a coin for the discerning collector. NGC #6448110-021. Pedigreed to the Clyde Hubbard Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage (stated on label). Accompanied by original tag or holder from Clyde Hubbard.
