Mexico City, Mexico, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer R at bottom between pillars. Nesmith 6a/6c for type S-M1. 11.56 grams. Choice bold details all over (full legends, no doubling) but with very light surface corrosion and corresponding weight loss, still very attractive and great for study since so much die-detail is in evidence. With Sedwick photo-certificate, and pedigreed to the Richard A. Long auctions of October 1996 (lot 536) and October 1995 (lot 588). Recovered from: "Golden Fleece wreck," sunk ca. 1550 in the northern Caribbean
