Mexico City, Mexico, 1 real, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer G between bottoms of pillars, motto as PLVS in left-leaning rhomboid panel with single annulets on either side, rare, NGC XF details / holed. Nesmith-9b; Cal-61; S-M2; KM unl (6 for type). It is unfortunate that this little beauty has a hole marring its otherwise choice toning and sharp strike. While the legends are not complete, they are bold and beautiful. Purchased by Hubbard in 1956, it would not have been included in Nesmith's work, although Nesmith mentioned several other examples and it remains the most numerous variety. NGC #6448168-045. Pedigreed to the Clyde Hubbard Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage. Accompanied by original tag or holder from Clyde Hubbard.
