Megalodon (huge shark) tooth, Miocene era (approx. 2.6 to 15 million years old), found in the Hawthorn Formation, North Carolina. 177 grams, 4-1/2" x 3-1/4". Carcharocles megalodon, meaning "big tooth," an extinct species of shark, this tooth in good condition with dull light-colored enamel and small serrated edges on both sides, light brown base, unusual old gouge in base and upper part of tooth.
