Medellin, Colombia, 1/2 peso (medio peso), 1868, very rare, PCGS MS62, finest known, Restrepo Plate Coin (stated on label). Restrepo-292.1; KM-152. Very bold strike with 100% full details, muted luster and traces of toning, a highly sought unique denomination ("medio peso," as specified by law) issued in just this year at just this mint (soon replaced by "cinco decimos," although ironically the MEDIO PESO on this issue is clearly punched over CINCO DECIMOS on the coin) of which only six are known, this being the finest and only Mint State piece graded by PCGS, the only other PCGS example being a notably cruder AU50 (Eldorado specimen), also this type completely unlisted at NGC. For the Colombian specialists, particularly the many avid fans of the "half dollars" of Colombia, this coin is the ultimate trophy. PCGS #39227533. Pedigreed to the Nueva Granada Collection (stated on label), and Plate Coin on page 192 of Restrepo's Coins of Colombia (2012).
