MEXICO, two-coin set of cap-and-rays 8R and 2R, 1838 ZsOM and 1827 MoJM respectively, ex-"New Orleans hoard." KM-377.13, DP-Za18 (8R); KM-374.10 (2R). 32.93 grams total. Both coins recovered on October 29, 1982, from one of two wooden boxes uncovered by a construction operation in the French Quarter of New Orleans that led to businesspeople and passersby digging in the mud for coins. The 8 reales is AU with significant luster amid minor encrustation while the 2 reales is XF; both coins exhibit light corrosion around the rims. From the "New Orleans hoard," found in 1982, with original 1986 certificates in wallet-type folio, pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 21, with original lot-tag 1627.
