MEXICO, Tlalpujahua (National Congress), 1 real, Ferdinand VII, 1812 (inward-facing date), PCGS VF35, "top pop." Cal-692; KM-211. Exceptional strike for this type with all the design clear except for a small part of the legend on both sides, the reverse slightly off-center but the obverse nicely centered with bold date and VICE FERD VII in legend, all details lined with darkly contrasting toning, currently tied with one other for finest in the PCGS census. The National Congress (Zitácuaro Junta), was established in 1811 by Ignacio López Rayón and José María Liceaga, seeking to unite the insurgent movement under a central government in the name of Ferdinand VII. Though short-lived, it issued decrees, promoted early constitutional ideas, and helped pave the way for the ultimately successful Congress of Chilpanzingo.
