MEXICO, Mexico City, ½ real, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer F to right of monogram, mintmark M to left (oMo-oFo), motto as PLV in left-leaning rhomboid panel with double annulets on either side, extremely rare, NGC VG details / cleaned, ex-Sedwick-Downing (stated on label). Nesmith-13; S-M3; Cal-43; KM-unl (6 for type). 1.28 grams. Somewhat crudely struck, with weak assayer, but 100% identifiable and with parts of legends bold, Fine overall with some toning around details. This assayer is highly sought for its rarity, and in fact this ½ real example is one of only three known to us. It is also a die match to an assayer-P coin and an assayer F/P (oMo-oF/Po). Pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 1, lot 350, and to the Sedwick-Downing Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage.
