MEXICO, Mexico City, large clump of at least twenty cob 8R and 4R, Philip IV or Charles II, assayers not visible, one with clear date 1680. 636 grams total. roughly 5" x 3¼" x 2". The most impressive shipwreck cob clump we have offered in some time, with most of the coins exposed (albeit worn as usual from this wreck), one even with full 680 of date prominent, also all nicely toned, solidly held together with tan-green-orange encrustation including small rocks and shells (one full limpet, for example), rather heavy in hand and obviously the perfect showpiece paperweight for a shipwreck-collecting executive, sure to attract abundant interest. Pedigreed to the Steve Valentine Collection, with original certificate from the salvor/conservator. Recovered from: Joanna, sunk in 1682 off South Africa
