MEXICO, Mexico City, gold cob 8 escudos, 1715 J, ex-1715 Fleet, mounted shield-side out in 14K gold bezel with fixed bail. 35.13 grams total. Popular date, with the bottom half of the digits visible (final digit covered by prong but certain), full shield with weak assayer to left, nice complete cross, slight scuff on the back but otherwise XF, securely mounted in a gold pendant setting, ready to wear, impressive as the largest Spanish colonial gold coin. From the 1715 Fleet. (Note: The printed catalog calls this non-wreck in error.)
