MEXICO, Mexico City, gold cob 8 escudos, 1714 J, Royal-die obverse, extremely rare, NGC MS 63 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label). S-M30; KM-unl (57.2 for type); Cal-unl (Type 296). 26.91 grams. Full cross-and-tressure, slightly off-center full crown (bold) and shield, enabling a full but weak 714 date and oMJ with florets above and below, a characteristic of the Royal die for this date, one of only a handful of examples known (not listed in the NGC census), rich gold color, slightly grainy surfaces. From the 1715 Fleet, with photo-certificate.
