MEXICO, Mexico City, gold cob 4 escudos, Philip V, assayer L (1702-5), box-end cross, extremely rare, NGC UNC details / obv scratched (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label). S-M29a; Cal-unl; KM-unl; Fr-7a. 13.58 grams. Choice, bold, and well-centered full Bourbon shield with clear oXML to left (hence limited to the period of 1702-05) and denomination IIII to right, also full "box-end" cross on other side, typically blunted points on edge (as made), an extremely rare type of which we can only find one other, a 1705/4-dated example in the State of Florida Collection, notably unlisted in both Calicó and KM. A hairline staple-scratch in a flat peripheral area on the obverse is noted for completeness but does not detract. From the 1715 Fleet.
