MEXICO, Mexico City, gold cob 4 escudos, Philip V, assayer J (style of 1711-12), ornate-tressure cross, very rare, NGC MS 62 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), finest and only example in NGC census. S-M30; Cal-unl; KM-55.1; Fr-7a. 13.45 grams. Another rare type that is entirely unlisted in Calicó, with right side of (oX)MJ visible to left of well-detailed full shield bearing the characteristic triangular Granada between the lower lion and castle (which ended in 1712) combined with slightly off-center cross bearing distinctive C-shaped ornaments outside the quadrants ("ornate-tressure" type, limited to the dates 1711 and 1712, which NGC calls "bar-end cross" of 1711-13), flat and beveled peripheries with some light blunting on edge (as made), traces of encrustation.
