MEXICO, Mexico City, gold cob 1 escudo, Charles II, assayer L, jeweled cross (1680-98), NGC AU details / cleaned (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label). S-M29; KM-50; Cal-Type 131; Fr-5. Curiously oblong flan with nearly full crown but very weakly struck centers (shield and cross, the former with lots of raised striations that are not from cleaning but from die-polishing), the mintmark-assayer oXML barely visible (not noted on label), scarce early type. From the 1715 Fleet.
