MEXICO, Mexico City, gold cob 1 escudo, 1702 L, very rare, NGC AU 58 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label). S-M29a; KM-51.1; Cal-1726; Fr-7c. Somewhat broad flan with off-center shield to right of bold full date and oXML, also full and well-centered cross (box-end design), but all a bit double-struck, light yellow color and luster, desirable as the first date of Philip V from this mint (with "box-end" cross continuing from Charles II issues). From the 1715 Fleet, pedigreed to the Ponterio auction of April 1989, with original lot-tag 256, and with Sedwick photo-certificate.
