MEXICO, Mexico City, gold bust 1 escudo, Charles III, 1773 FM/MF, rare, PCGS AU58, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Eliasberg, ex-Clapp. Cal-unl (Type 133); KM-unl (118.1 for type); Fr-36. Choice luster with traces of red toning, bold full rims and sharp details, one of just two known in this top grade (this one at PCGS and one at NGC, none in Mint State) for this rare over-assayer issue that is unlisted in Calicó and KM. Pedigreed to the Eliasberg Collection (American Numismatic Rarities auction of April 2005 (lot 3155), stated on label, and to the John H. Clapp Collection.
