MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, Philip V, assayer not visible (J), new-style shield, old-style cross (1714-15), neat shape, ex-Bruce Ward. S-M22; KM-47; Cal-Type 170. 25.36 grams. Cute turnip-shaped flan that could pass for Texas on a U.S. map made up of state-shaped cobs (an actual collecting goal!), good full shield but weaker cross, some surface corrosion but overall rather solid. Pedigreed to the Bruce Ward Collection (Cargile Auction of December 2019, lot 181, with original photo-certificate) and accompanied by an additional photo-certificate showing the coin after cleaning. Recovered from: Spanish 1715 Fleet, sunk off the east coast of Florida
