MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, Louis I, (1724-25) (D), very rare. S-M23; KM-49; Cal-Type 25. 26.45 grams. Solid flan with no corrosion but weakly struck (much flatness), clear shield and cross nonetheless but significantly with king's ordinal I visible in legend above a blunted point in the edge of an odd-shaped flan with straight edge terminating in other blunt points (looks like the state of Ohio), toned all over, one of less than five examples known to us with any part of king's name and/or ordinal visible (excluding Royals). With certificate (generic). Recovered from: Rooswijk, sunk in 1739 southeast of England
