MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, Charles II, assayer not visible, cross struck from 4R die, "thumbprint" on cross, neat shape. KM-46; Cal-Type 108. 26.97 grams. Long, thin, rectangular shape with large, rounded hump at one end, choice full crown above most of shield, nearly full cross (4R-sized) with swirling "thumbprint" pattern from faulty die-polishing (see lot 358 for explanation), typically flat in peripheries, lightly toned AVF with traces of verdigris.
