MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 4 reales, 1616/5/4 F, rare. S-M17; KM-unl (37.2 for type); Cal-unl (Type 146). 11.88 grams. Superb full cross-lions-castles and very nice full shield with oM mintmark to left below a full and clear date (16)16/5 (the first under-digit 4 not visible, but cross side in the style of 1614, particularly the castles), peripherally flat but attractively toned and corrosion-free. Pedigreed to Sedwick Summer Auction 1, lot 84, with certificate and display-box, also with NGC slab 1973716-010 (São José Shipwreck Label) cut down to just the label. Recovered from: São José, sunk in 1622 off Mozambique, east of Africa
