MEXICO, Mexico City, clump of three cobs (two 4R and one 8R), Philip V, one cleaned to show a date 171(4-5) and oMJ, otherwise encrusted as found, ex-Bruce Ward. 57.44 grams total. Roughly 2" x 1½" x ½". From one side this is just a neat stair-step stack with two 4R resting on an 8R, all solid coins, but when you turn it over, you see the 8R has been cleaned on that side (after the Ward sale) to reveal a complete oMJ sandwiched between bold 171 of date and full but off-center shield, nicely toned in crevices with only light surface corrosion, a great display overall. Pedigreed to the Bruce Ward Estate (Cargile auction of December 2019, lot 116), with original photo-certificate. Recovered from: Spanish 1715 Fleet, sunk off the east coast of Florida
