MEXICO, Mexico City, bust 8 reales, Charles III, 1788 FM, rare provenance. Yonaka-M8.88; KM-106.2A; Cal-1132 . 12.39 grams. Rare provenance to this privateer ship whose captain, Thomas Wakefield, operated under an English letter of marque; the ship sank in heavy fog after striking Bembridge Ledge off the Isle of Wight. Heavily corroded, smooth surfaces with just enough of the date and assayer visible, patch of dark encrustation on the obverse. With original photo-certificate from the salvor. Recovered from: Henry Addington, sunk in 1798 off the Isle of Wight, south of England
